The First Aid training landscape in South Africa

On the 30th June 2024 the current SETA accredited first aid course Unit Standards expired.  Therefore, accredited SETA service providers may no longer offer SETA accredited first aid courses or for that matter, any previously accredited courses as all unit standards expired on the 30th June 2024.

So what now?

Firstly, the date for migrating training programmes from SETA (sector and training authorities) to the QCTO (quality council for trades and occupations) was postponed a number of times.  But no more.   The 30th June was the final deadline.

So, QCTO has replaced SETA as the primary body responsible for accreditation, assessment and certification of all occupational and skills programmes of which first aid training forms a part.

To meet your first aid training obligation under the OSH act after the 30th June 2024 please ensure that your first aid training provider is QCTO accredited.

DAN Training Southern Africa has been in the first aid training landscape for over 20 years offering first aid courses to the world wide scuba diving, free diving and spearfishing communities.

Our first aid courses are Dept. of Labour approved and we offered our first aid level 1 course to all industries within South Africa that have a legal obligation under OSH to provider first aiders within their companies to their work force.

We completed our SETA accreditation a number of years ago and have completed our QCTO applications for QCTO accreditation and are well situated to meet your first aid training requirements within the ever shifting training landscape in South Africa.
